Journeying to Worksop Rail Station via Retford Rail Station surprisingly appeared to be on the fast and easy route. From 'Donny', travelling on a Kings Cross Azuma down to Retford taking just 28 minutes. The connecting train to Worksop, being just an 11 minute wait. Time enough to grab a few photos of Retford Rail Station and make my way to the low-level platforms, where my connecting train will arrive. Then on the Lincoln-bound DMU to Worksop, one stop and 7 minutes down the line and I was at the station.
As said before, Retford has two levels of track. The High-Level is mainline, ie, London to Edinburgh, while the Low-Level is branch-line, linking east (Lincoln) and west (Sheffield) routes. This is the first occasion that I have actually alighted and stood on the platform at Retford. I found the two-levels intriguing and I suppose that they exist elsewhere?
Looking West to Sheffield, on P3 Low-Level Retford Railway Station.
Worksop Rail Station is one of those in this part of the world where the station is in the centre of town, necessitating the placement of a road level-crossing at the eastern-end of the station. A branch-line, Worksop Station doesn't appear to have much in the way of train-traffic. There are only 2 platforms as you would expect from a branch-line.
