20th FEBRUARY 2024 - 5Z79 GROSMONT TO CREWE H.S. 46100 ROYAL SCOT via CHURCH FENTON RAIL STATION.

Finally, after having seen the steam loco, 46100 Royal Scot hurtle through Keighley Rail Station, two weeks ago on the 6th, I needed to grab some photos of it returning to 'Base' at Crewe HS, after visiting North Yorkshire Heritage Railway. This I did, at the little station of Church Fenton, situated a few miles south of York.

But first I'd have to get to York. And at York I met with an 'Enthusiast' who was "Into" modern locomotives and he put me right for the next train to Church Fenton.

Church Fenton Rail Station.

This is where I would view 46100 Royal Scot.

A small commuter station, a few miles south of  York. I arrived at Church Fenton 15 mins after leaving York. Just a very short journey south down the line. This appears to be a major route between east-west & north-south, as there are 5 track lines passing through the station. Two go off towards the south and three to the west to Leeds. The class 170 that I boarded at York was bound for Blackpool North and indeed there is a regular service between York and Blackpool.

Looking north toward York.

Looking north from platform 3.

Lines to west and Leeds. 46100 will take this nearside line, left, to turn to south.

Two lines to the south on left & 3 to west and Leeds.

Below, a few images & video of 46100 Royal Scot approaching the station and passing-by. I chose to stand on the bridge linking platforms 3 and 4.

I'm quite pleased with the shots, even though it was a little windy causing camera-shake with my movie of the 'steamer'.

And there it goes.

The above 3 photos & 2 videos, show Class 60 085, hauling a train of MHA Coalfish Ballast Wagons, calling at platform 9 for a Driver exchange and then departing. To me this loco is a smart-looking piece of diesel hardware. Maybe my first view of this type of locomotive.
