4th DECEMBER 2024-1Z15 THE CHRISTMAS WHITE ROSE with 4-6-0 CASTLE CLASS 5043 'EARL of MOUNT EDGCUMBE'.

Just a quick visit to York, well it didn't end as a quick visit! I'd been to York so many times in these past two weeks, I'm begining to look futher afield for a scenic change.

Today was the visit of the another Castle Class, 4-6-0 steam loco, 5043, 'Earl of Edgcombe'. This is one that I have never seen. It always seems to ply its trade in the west country. So to get the locomotive over at the eastern-side and up-north, was welcomed.

As you would expect with a rare visit of this steam locomotive, there was quite a crowd crammed onto the narrow platform!

This Railtour was going to off-load its passengers and then the class 47 would take the train to Holgate sidings to the south. There the wholqe train would stay for the afternoon while its passengers enjoyed the delights of York.

So that was enough time for me to take photos of 5043 and then stroll down to the tail-end to grab some photos.

All too quickly though, the class 47 revved-up and belched some smoke before slowly pulling away towards the sidings.
