11th MAY 2022 - 46100 ROYAL SCOT '1Z70 THE YORKSHIRE COAST EXPRESS' CREWE TO SCARBOROUGH AT SWINTON (SY) RAIL STATION.

Another visit to a small station just south of Doncaster, Swinton, to see the steam loco 46100 Royal Scot thunder through the station hauling 'The Yorkshire Coast Express'. The Royal Scot took over hauling 'The Yorkshire Coast Express at Liverpool Lime Street Rail Station for the journey to Scarborough.

Looking south towards Sheffield, from where 46100 Royal Scot will emerge.

I have to say that Swinton (SY) Rail Station has the most delicious coffee that I have tasted from anywhere and the price is only £1! Well done to 'The Friends of Swinton Railway Station' society who manage the facilities there! It was raining and I was informed that the 'Scot' was running 45 mins behind time, so a good coffee in the waiting room was needed!

46100 Royal Scot thunders through Swinton(SY) Rail Station.

That was exhilarating and the platform wasn't crowded. But prior to the 'Scot' there were a couple of freight trains that I also managed to take pics of!

Class 66, 66526 heads the 432K Tinsley Intermodal Term to Felixstowe North F.L.T.

As you can see, the Freightliner consists of many container and empty flat wagons. Too many to count reliably. Not long after, just as I came back from a coffee break, a Railfreight train passed through the station.

Another long rake!

28th APRIL 2022 - 5Z85 DONCASTER WEST YARD to CREWE HS (ECS MOVEMENT).

I was in town and on the off-chance of seeing something special, I paid a quick visit to the rail station. As expected,  the Statesman Rail Pullman Train with empty coaching stock, a rake of nine Mark 1 Pullman coaches was laid-up at the sidings with class 47s at either end of the rake. D11935 (47805) 'Roger Hoskins MA 11925-2013' was at the front while D1924 (47810) 'Peter Bath MBE 1926-2006' was at the rear.

D1935 (47805) waits in the sidings for clearance to move.

The driver of D1935 waits for his colleague who will pilot D1924.

After moving up the line to Doncaster Marshgate junction, the train was switched to the 'Up Goods' line to begin the journey back to Crewe led by D1924. By the time the train left Doncaster, it was running 14 minutes behind time. Unfortunately I missed D1924 leading 'The Statesman' back to Crewe but did manage to capture a short movie on my mobile phone!

24th APRIL 2022 - 013Q CLASS 37 DERBY RTC (NETWORK RAIL) TO DONCASTER WAGON SHOP.

Sunday 24th April, I was in town and had some spare time, so toddled-off to the railway station to see a Class 37 Diesel Locomotive trundle into the sidings, from Derby. The Class 37 in a great big brute of a workhorse and powerful too! Standing on platform 8, I got a superb view of the loco. Due to unforeseen circumstances, my camera wasn't working so obtained these photos from my mobile phone.

Here it comes, 37800 has just passed Hexthorpe Bridge.

It's coming!

Still on the 'Down Wagon Line'.

Class 37, 37800 finally at rest and waits to enter the Wagon Shop.

Whilst at the station, I was forearmed with info concerning the arrival of a Freightliner train passing through the station.

22nd APRIL 2022 - 6233 DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND '1Z19 THE GREAT BRITAIN XIV' PASSES THROUGH DONCASTER ON IT'S WAY TO YORK (1st leg).

This is the 1st leg of an around UK rail journey. Fortunately, this 1st leg is from Kings Cross to York and passes through Doncaster, non-stop. Which is a shame as The Duchess of Sutherland is such a great-looking steam loco that it is always a pleasure to get up close and personal to it. But not this time.

Prior to The Great Britain XIV, a class 47, the number of which, I didn't catch, belonging to West Coast Railways thunders through the station. Towards York?
