As you would expect at this time of year, the station was very busy with seasonal travellers...and it was bitterly cold on the platform. Plenty of motive power about, but the object was to observe the 'Beverley Christmas Carol' service, hauled by Class 50 Diesel Loco, 50049 with 50034 at the rear. Initially, a class 66 and 67 were slated for this train but due to unforeseen circumstances, were withdrawn at the last 'minute'.
1Z50 was hauled from Kings Cross to Doncaster Mail Terminal by a class 90, 90034 and then de-coupled to enable 50049 to continue hauling the excursion north to Beverley after a brief stop at the station sidings to let a fast service race through the station. 90034 also arrived into Doncaster prior to the arrival of 1Z50. Unfortunately I missed this due to videoing a freight service.
I joined other 'observers' spread along the top-end of platform 3. More were along platform 4 and 8. Plenty of train-action was to be seen before the arrival of 1Z50.
