For many years now, we have fed the garden birds live mealworms. We get to know regular callers and they appear to get to know us! Some, such as the Robins, Blackbirds and Blue Tits seem to be very trusting. They will call to attract our attention if we are in the kitchen and stand on the doorstep staring into the kitchen!
This time, my wife was feeding them and put her hand out with mealworms in the palm. The Robin and Blackbird were unsure but a Blue Tit, most probably a juvenile, immediately jumped into her palm and took a mealworm but was unsure as to what to do with it. We think that the Blue Tit was unwell as after it ate the mealworm, it took to roosting on the 'over-hang' above the backdoor. Come the morning, it was not there and we have to assume it was fit, well and flew away...we hope!
