26th OCTOBER 2022 - 60007 (4498) SIR NIGEL GRESLEY: '5Z61 LIGHT ENGINE MOVEMENT' (GROSMONT NYMR TO CREWE HS) at WAKEFIELD KIRKGATE.

After a Summer-Season at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, 60007 (4498) Sir Nigel Gresley is returning to its home base at Crewe HS.  The Loco had returned to mainline running and carrying passengers in April of this year at the NYR, after an overhaul since 2015. I chose to visit Wakefield Kirkgate to view the loco, but I did ponder the idea of going to Thirsk, as a change from York. But in the end, the logistics of getting back from Thirsk to my home base, made me opt for Wakefield Kirkgate.

60007 is probably, the third most famous of UK Steam Locomotives. This video is not one of my better ones. I was stood in the wrong place and definitely on the wrong platform! But I saw it and have a record of 60007 (4498), as the first observation of this grand loco. It gently steamed past platform 2 with its Support Coach towards the east and eventually Crewe HS to be made ready for future excursions.

150219 stops for passengers at platform 2.

158902 collects passengers at platform 1.
Class 47 heads a Drax container freight train, heading east.

Class 66 loco heads a Rail Treatment Train past platform3 westwards.

...And finally, the Signals. I do like signals! Kirkgate has many as it's a complicated junction as can be seen from the alignment of the track.

Leeds City Railway Station.

Returning to my home location, I needed to travel by train to Leeds. The station is located at the centre of the city and is very large in area.

333005 arrives at Leeds.

EMU 333008 beside DMU 158786 at the buffers.

333016 departs for Skipton.

All-in-all, a grand afternoon out!
