VISITS TO FOOTBALL GROUNDS/MATCHES 3rd MAY 2025.

26th April 2025 EFL League 2 Notts County 1v2 Doncaster Rovers

A sellout for Rovers fans, 2000 were in attendance.

Kick-off.

Last time out, Doncaster gained promotion to League One. Today they had to beat Notts County to take the League 2 Championship title. Notts were sixth in the league and a win would give them a chance of automatic promotion. They had secured enough points for the playoffs. I sat in the Notts County end with my pal. A great turnout from the Rovers fans!

We expected a 'stalemate' sort of game. In fact it was nothing of the sort!

Celebrations as Rovers have scored the first goal.

Both teams were on their game from the off. Twenty minutes into the match, a Rovers player had a shot at goal blocked and before the ball could be cleared, Rovers poked the ball into the goal. 0-1!

Rovers scored a second goal nine minutes later as a high through-ball was controlled by Rovers and the player raced away from Notts defender to lob the keeper. 0-2!

Celebrations as Rovers have scored a second goal.

It was end-to-end but the midfields of both sides nullified potential attacks. Notts did put more pressure on Donny with corners but could not find a way through.

Wow! I don't think anybody on the Rovers side saw this coming. The Notts support was silent with the occasional shout towards their players.

So the first half ended with Doncaster in the commanding position of winning the league.

In the second half, Notts upped their game but the Rovers defence held firm. They did have a couple of chances when through on goal but Rovers' on-loan goalkeeper from Chelsea made a couple of fine saves to deny Notts.

Rovers hit the Notts post by the player who had grabbed both goals, but then it was hoofed away by Notts.

Right at the end of the match, Notts did manage to score a goal but it was just not enough. Rovers won the match, 1-2 and the League 2 Championship. As for Notts, they are consigned to 6th place in the league and the lottery of the play-offs.

Notts have just scored their consolation goal.

A very good crowd of 15,427 for this final match of the regular season. No match programme as Notts County have stopped producing them.

Doncaster Rovers......Champions of EFL League 2 2024/2025.
