Stanier Class 'Black 5' 44871 lets off steam at P5.

The day started early, with the 9:04am Kings Cross to York 'Azuma'. Gloomy and overcast with drizzling rain in the air...lovely!Got the train up to York in time to see the 'Midland Rambler' HST pull alongside platform 11. Not too keen on the blue colour but do like these Class 43s.

HST 43046 Geoff Drury 1930-1999 approaches P11.

The Nameplate for 43046, 'Geoff Drury 1930-1999'.

Cross Country 22141 call at York bound for Plymouth.

Interested to see the curve track points at the station.

Looking south, the curved tracks and platform adds character to York station.

LNER Azuma service 1S09, 801207 departs P5 for Newcastle.

TPE 185102 with 1U39 service at P4 for Scarborough.

Having stood near the curve at platform 4 for 20 or so minutes, peoples heads turned towards the south and a pleathoria of cameras were raised to capture images of the incomming steam loco. Black 5 No. 44871 finally rounded the curve and gradually came to a stop. Standing accross on the platform opposite, always provides a great view of any loco and photos. Here at York, due to the curved platform, this adds to a memorable photo.

44871 Black 5 pulls alonside platform 5b and slows to a stop at York Rail Station.
44871 Black 5 lets-off steam at platorm 5b.

44871 Black 5 steams-up and slowly pulls away from platform 5b bound for Scarborough at York Rail Station...what a sight!

One can never have too many photos of a Steam Locomotive. Yep, a 'Black 5' always looks impressive.
